ABSTRACT

Research that examines the construct validity of Posttraumatic Growth Inventory in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic has never been conducted. This study aimed to test the construct validity of Posttraumatic Growth Inventory (PTGI) on the five dimensions to see the consistency of the PTGI dimensionality structure. Data collection was carried out on 135 COVID-19 survivors, aged 18–40 in Indonesia. Analysis was carried out by confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and measurement invariance (MI). The results of the analysis proved that PTGI is a measuring instrument that tends to be multidimensional and reliable to be used in Indonesia. All model fit indices met the parameters based on the values of SRMR (<.06), RMSEA (<.10), CFI (>.85), and TLI (>.85). Factor loadings ranged from 0.616 to 0.839 except for item 6 and item 9, which were below 0.6. These low loading factors in item 6 and item 9 were caused by the choice of translated words which tend to be less precise with the dimension being measured. Recommendations related to changes in translated words were explained further in the article as a follow-up to the adjustment of the item statement. Other factors such as personality characteristics, level of self-esteem, and social stigma were also found to be associated with the results of the analysis. ABSTRACT

Objectives: The growing implementation of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) for patients with COVID19 has led to increased involvement of nurses in treating ECMO-supported patients (ECMO-SP). In June 2021, the Israeli Ministry of Health;s Nursing Administration published the first director;s circular in the world to detail the nursing scope of practice in caring for ECMO-SP. This study aimed to examine how often nurses perform various activities while caring for adult ECMO-SP. Method(s): A cross-sectional study. A convenience sample consisted of 76 registered ICU nurses (mean age 41.3+/-8.7 years;71% female). A 20-item Nursing Activities in the Care of ECMO-SP instrument was developed based on the Israeli Ministry of Health;s procedure on Nursing Practice in the Care of ECMO-SP and a literature review. The instrument examined how often nurses perform various activities on a Likert scale ranging from 1 (Never) to 5 (Always). Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses (EFA and CFA), as well as descriptive statistics and Pierson;s correlations were performed. Result(s): When examined in EFA and CFA, the instrument yielded acceptable fit indices. The instrument contains four subscales with the following mean +/- SD scores: Factor 1. Nursing care of ECMO-SP not related to the ECMO device (7 items, a=0.90), M+/-SD=4.66+/-0.61;Factor 2. Activities on the ECMO device during emergencies (5 items, a=0.82), M+/-SD=2.1+/-0.91;Factor 3. ECMO device calibrating and monitoring (4 items, a=0.72), M+/-SD=3.26+/-1.0;and Factor 4. Medication and blood administration through the ECMO device (4 items, a=0.73), M+/-SD=1.52+/-0.60. Of the 20 nursing activities, 10 (50%) were reported as "never" or "rarely" performed. Nine out of 20 items (45%) were reported as "very often" or "always" performed. Conclusion(s): Ten out of 20 (50%) activities while caring for ECMO-SP listed in the scope of practice as permissible for nurses to perform were reported as not performed at all or performed rarely. Policymakers need to act so that the activities listed in the nursing scope of practice are carried out by nurses in practice.

ABSTRACT

COVID-19 has created an unprecedented challenge for the whole world. Apart from being a big threat to lives, it has also created a lot of anxiety among the people. This study aimed to identify the factorial structures of the psychological anxiety scale for the COVID-19 pandemic. The initial form of the scale consisted of (55) items. The validity and reliability of the scale were verified. Moreover, the exploratory factor analysis was extracted, which showed the presence of three factors on which the items gathered: the somatic, the psychological, and the cognitive. Twelve items were deleted because they were not saturated with any of the three dimensions, then the confirmatory factor analysis was applied using the Amos program which indicated the results of the exploratory factor analysis of the scale, where nearly all the items of the three factors had significant loadings on the factor it belongs. Finally, the study recommended using this scale in future researches. © 2023 NSP Natural Sciences Publishing Cor.

ABSTRACT

The volatility of the labor market resulting from globalization, rapid technology changes, economic competition, and the impact of events such as the Covid-2019 Pandemic, demand from vocational psychology a more refined understanding of the processes individuals face while dealing with those new challenges and opportunities, especially in uncertain contexts. Theories such as Planned Happenstance address constructs such as career flexibility, an essential skill to recognize, create and use chance events as career opportunities. Furthermore, when fortuitous events and uncertain contexts are considered for career development, it becomes relevant to understand how subjective time perspective evolves, that is how the life events and career goals are projected, accessed, valued, and organized. Given this context, the objectives of the present study are to adapt and validate a Portuguese version of the Career Flexibility Inventory and to explore the possible relationships between career flexibility, time perspective, and variables inherent to the educational context. The Portuguese version of the Career Flexibility Inventory, the Time Perspective Inventory and a sociodemographic form were answered by 1,380 students from Portuguese higher education institutions. The results indicated that the Portuguese version of the CFI has an adequate three-factor structure with good reliability indices. Some limitations regarding psychometric validity show the importance of further research to improve the measure. However, the findings contribute to theoretically and operationally deepening discussions on the multidimensionality of Career Flexibility. The results regarding the relationships between time perspective and career flexibility seem to be in line with the theoretical indicators of the variables and support the formulated hypotheses, specifically, that future orientation presents a positive correlation with active adaptation; a negative correlation with wavering, and wavering presents a positive correlation with the negative future orientation. The results partially support the hypothesis of differences on time perspective and career flexibility among students with different academic grade averages and from diverse scientific areas of study. Finally, the study advances a theoretical reflection on the different nature of career flexibility dimensions and contributes to broadening and promoting theoretical and operational discussions on the relationships between time perspective and career flexibility, which are still incipient.

ABSTRACT

After the COVID-19 pandemic, the pandemic, teachers quickly adapted to an Edutech-based. Many teachers began experiencing a high level of depression and doubted their own teaching competence. Therefore, this study examines the dual mediation of technology readiness (hereinafter referred to as TR) and readiness for change (hereinafter referred to as RC) in the relationship between Edutech competence and depression in South Korean teachers. Questionnaires regarding Edutech competence, TR, RC, and depression were distributed to 382 teachers (136 males and 246 females). A survey was administered to middle and high school teachers in South Korea using a mobile URL of Google from July 2022 to August 2022, and 382 complete responses were analysed. It analysed survey data through frequency, correlation analysis and structural equation modelling using SPSS 26.0 and Amos 25.0. The results indicate that, first, depression has a negative and significant correlation with Edutech competence, TR, and RC. Second, the results of structural equation modeling verify the mediating effect of TR and RC in the relationship between teachers' Edutech competence and depression. Finally, Edutech competence has a statistically significant impact on TR and RC but does not affect depression. Therefore, improving TR and RC, rather than merely acquiring Edutech competence, is necessary to address depression in South Korean teachers in the post-COVID-19 scenario. © 2023, Auricle Global Society of Education and Research. ABSTRACT

Objective: Overuse of video conferencing during the COVID-19 pandemic may contribute to the new mental health problem called 'Zoom fatigue'. This study examined convergent validity, factor validity, internal consistency and test-retest reliability of the Thai version of the Zoom Exhaustion & Fatigue Scale (ZEF-T). Method(s): The participants were 386 medical students from Thammasat University. Convergent validity was based on comparing ZEF-T scores with the Maslach Burnout Inventory-Student Survey (MBI-SS). Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was done to examine factor validity. Test-retest reliability was evaluated in 25 participants using intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and Bland-Altman plot. Result(s): The ZEF-T demonstrated a positive correlation with emotional exhaustion of MBI-SS. (r = 0.42, p < 0.001). The CFA showed a satisfactory fit and supported the five-factor model with acceptable fit statistics. All items had factor loading of more than 0.7. Internal consistency and test-retest reliability of the total ZEF-T scores was excellent with the alpha of 0.93 and ICC 0.94 (p < 0.001), respectively. Conclusion(s): The ZEF-T was shown to be a valid and reliable assessment for measuring zoom fatigue in Thai university students.Copyright © 2023 IACFS/ME.

ABSTRACT

Studies on the prevalence of burnout in professionals in service organizations who work in direct contact with the clients or users of the organization have concluded that burnout is a serious health disorder that has increased due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A significant advantage of the Spanish Burnout Inventory (SBI) over other instruments is that it provides a broader conceptualization of burnout by including feelings of guilt as a dimension of burnout to explain its development. However, the measurement invariance of the SBI across countries has not been investigated. The purpose of this study was to test the measurement invariance of the SBI among professionals across 17 countries and regions in Europe, Latin America, and Asia, and in different languages. All the countries showed a good fit to the four-factor model, except the Indian sample, which was excluded from the measurement invariance study. Using the alignment method, it was possible to verify the scalar measurement invariance of the four SBI factors across 15 countries and one Spanish region (16 samples). The comparison of estimated latent means indicates that France is the country with the lowest scores on the Enthusiasm factor and the highest scores on the negative factors (Exhaustion, Indolence, and Guilt). In contrast, the Andean countries, Colombia, Peru, and Ecuador, show the highest latent means on the Enthusiasm factor and the lowest means on the negative factors. These results support the validity of the SBI in the countries and regions in Europe and Latin America included in this study.

ABSTRACT

Rasch Analysis suggested the Lakaev Academic Stress Response Scale-1 (LASRS-1) would benefit from refinement by the addition of items and changes to the wording of other items. It was named the LASRS-2 and contained Four Domains (Affective, Behavioral, Cognitive, and Physiological). Rasch Model Analysis tested construct validity and internal reliability on a population of tertiary (university or college) level students (n = 2,000). Good person separation and item reliability estimates provided evidence that this tool was a reliable measure of academic stress. A Principal Component Analysis (PCA) of Rasch residuals showed the scale to be unidimensional. The results confirmed confidence in the replicability of scores due to sufficient item separation, agreeability, and that scores formed a continuum. Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) was used as a secondary check to support findings of Rasch Modeling outcomes. The LASRS-2 was shown to be a valid and reliable psychometric tool that measured academic stress.

ABSTRACT

Working outside of the employer's physical space using information and communication technology can be labeled as telework. With the Covid-19 pandemic, telework assumed an unprecedented relevance with substantial impact for the future. Therefore, the development of assessment scales that allow a better comprehension of telework is essential. In this study, the factor structure, reliability, and validity of the Impact of Telework on Career Scale (ITCS) were assessed tested on 533 workers, and confirmatory analyses were performed on 532 remote workers. Results suggested good psychometric properties and a two-factor structure, Work-Related Well-Being, and Psychological Well-Being. Furthermore, this Portuguese sample considered that telework has little impact on the connection with colleagues, employers, and the probability of being promoted, but it can promote work-related satisfaction and performance, as well as reduce work-family conflict. ABSTRACT

There were two broad goals pertaining to attitude strength that were explored in this dissertation. First, research and theory have suggested that many of the traditionally examined subjective attitude properties are distinct constructs. Yet, many attitude properties conceptually overlap with one another. In order to better understand the landscape of attitude properties, I examined the factor analytic structure of a comprehensive set of attitude strength antecedents. Participants reported attitudes toward the topic of GMOs (Study 1) or toward a topic they identified as important to them (Studies 2-6) and various subjective properties of their attitudes. In Studies 1-3, exploratory factor analyses revealed that the various strength antecedents reflected a two-factor structure that differentiated properties relating to an attitude's embeddedness in one's core values and identity from properties reflecting a consistency or entrenchment in an attitude. In Studies 4-6, confirmatory factor analyses determined that, in addition to the over-arching two-factor structure, including 'minor factors' reflecting each attitude property further improved model fit (see Appendix F for a summary of the indices of fit for each study). I therefore propose a hybrid model, wherein the various attitude properties form an over-arching two-factor structure in which each major factor includes additional 'minor' constructs. Across studies, moral basis loaded highly on an embeddedness factor along with values basis (all studies), importance (Studies 4-6), affective and cognitive meta-bases (Studies 5-6), self-definition, and subjective attitude strength (Study 6). The consistency factor was composed of subjective ambivalence (all studies), correctness, clarity (Studies 1-4), attitude-relevant knowledge (Studies 4-6), and certainty (Studies 5-6).The second goal of this dissertation was to understand, given the factor structure of the subjective attitude properties, which behavioral outcomes are better predicted by embeddedness versus consistency. I took an exploratory approach examining a variety of different behavioral domains, and found that attitude embeddedness (vs. consistency) predicted an increased attempt to shape one's environment by selectively exposing oneself to those who agree with one's position (Studies 4 and 7) and selectively exposing oneself to more biased news sources (Study 8). Attitude consistency (vs. embeddedness), on the other hand, better predicted the strength of relation between self-isolation attitudes and behaviors in the context of COVID-19 (Studies 9-10). I also examined the ability of each attitude feature to predict advocacy intentions (Studies 3-6). Embeddedness and consistency (as latent variables) each independently predicted advocacy intentions. It seemed that one way to understand these patterns would be that embeddedness plays a larger role when attitudes might serve value-expressive or social identify functions, whereas consistency might play a larger role when attitudes serve primarily utilitarian functions. Study 11 put that possibility to a confirmatory test, finding that in different contexts different attitude properties better predicted advocacy outcomes (Study 11). In particular, attitude embeddedness increased advocacy intentions for attitudes that served a social identity function, whereas attitude consistency increased advocacy intentions for attitudes that served a utilitarian function. Taken together, this work helps us to understand how attitude properties relate and the contexts under which different classes of attitude properties predict different outcomes. ABSTRACT

Background: The internet-based remote learning and pedagogical revolution in the era of the covid pandemic has contributed to the boom in video conferencing technologies and resulted in new phenomena of exhaustion and fatigue experienced during virtual meetings. Objective(s): To examine the psychometric properties of the Zoom Exhaustion and Fatigue Scale (ZEFS) in the Indian university student population and to explore its impact on mental health. Method(s): Five hundred and seven students participated in this study and 484 completed the ZEFS and the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale (DASS) via online survey. Psychometric validation of the ZEFS was performed with confirmatory factor analysis and reliability was assessed with Cronbach alpha and composite reliability. Pearson correlations were used to explore the relationship between the ZEFS and the DASS. Result(s): The results showed excellent reliability of the full ZEFS scale with a high Cronbach alpha and composite reliability score (0.94). The validity of the ZEFS within the Indian student sample was supported with favorable fit indices (CFI = 0.968, GFI = 0.932, AGFI = 0.897, CMIN/DF = 3.198, RMSEA = 0.06) consistent with the original factor structure. The Depression, Anxiety, and Stress scales of the DASS were found to be significantly correlated with Zoom fatigue (p <.01). Conclusion(s): Our data suggest that the Indian version of the ZEFS is a psychometrically sound measure to assess Zoom fatigue in the Indian student population.Copyright © 2023 IACFS/ME.

ABSTRACT

The study aimed to adapt and evaluate a scale to measure COVID-19-CED in COVID-19 survivors. A sample of 330 COVID-19 survivors filled out the COVID-19 Perceived Discrimination Scale (C-19-PDS). C-19-PDS was adapted from the Tuberculosis Perceived Discrimination Scale (11 items). Confirmatory factor analysis showed poor goodness-of-fit indicators. However, the 5-item version of the C-19-PDS showed better goodness-of-fit indicators, high internal consistency, and non-gender DIF. This instrument is recommended to evaluate COVID-19-CED in Colombian and other Spanish-speaking populations.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: (IFITM3) is an innate immune protein that has been identified as a novel gamma-secretase (gammas) modulator. FYN is a kinase that stabilizes IFITM3 on the membrane, primes APP for amyloidogenic gammas processing and mediates tau oligomerization. The purpose of this study is to explore the role of FYN and IFITM3 in AD and COVID-19, expanding on previous research from our group. Method(s): A 520 gene signature containing FYN and IFITM3 (termed Ia) was extracted from a previously published meta-analysis of Alzheimer's disease (AD) bulk- and single nuclei sequencing data. Exploratory analyses involved meta-analysis of bulk and single cell RNA data for IFITM3 and FYN differential expression per CNS site and cellular type. Confirmatory analyses, gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) on Ia was performed to detect overlapping enriched biological networks between COVID-19 with AD. Result(s): Bulk RNA data analysis revealed that IFITM3 and FYN were overexpressed in two CNS regions in AD vs. Controls: the temporal cortex Wilcoxon p-value=1.3e-6) and the parahippocampal cortex Wilcoxon p-value=0.012). Correspondingly, single cell RNA analysis of IFITM3 and FYN revealed that it was differentially expressed in neurons, glial and endothelial cells donated b AD patients, when compared to controls. Discussion(s): IFITM3 and FYN were found as interactors within biological networks overlapping between AD and SARS-CoV-2 infection. Within the context of SARS-CoV-2 induced tau aggregation and interactions between tau and Ab1-42, the FYN - IFITM3 regulome may outline an important innate immunity element responsive to viral infection and IFN-I signaling in both AD and COVID-19.Copyright © 2021 The Authors

ABSTRACT

Background: While more than a year has passed since the COVID-19 outbreak, it is still a growing health concern. Moreover, ample consensus exists for the presence of not only a physical but also a psychological impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Those reported as hardest hit were individuals who had been infected with COVID-19. Survivors have exhibited a higher prevalence of psychological morbidity i.e., PTSD, depression, and anxiety-as compared with the general population and health workers. Additionally, COVID-19 patients and survivors have been psychologically impacted by a staggering number of disease-related stressors. Objective(s): The study was aimed at analyzing COVID-19's impact on the psychological state of Argentinian disease survivors. Method(s): Two hundred and ninety-six COVID-19 survivors (67.2% female;Mage = 44.81;SDage = 12.16) from a major Buenos Aires hospital completed a questionnaire and a set of psychological measures-COVID-19 emotional impact, psychological sequelae, disease-related stressors, PTSD, and psychological distress. Result(s): The most impactful psychological sequelae and disease stressors revolved around having the disease awaiting test results, fear of infecting loved ones, being apart from family and friends during the disease, fear of physical sequelae and symptoms, and returning to isolation. PTSD prevalence rates were 33.8%. Survivor's psychological distress levels were moderately higher than pre-COVID-era general population levels, yet not significantly different from preCOVID-era clinical inpatients. Female gender, age, and hospital admission emerged as significant predictors of increased adverse psychological outcomes. Conclusion(s): Intervention for COVID-19 survivors is urgently needed, with particular attention to the alarming PTSD prevalence rates, as discussed in the study.Copyright © 2023 Bentham Science Publishers.

ABSTRACT

The present study aims to adapt and analyze the psychometric properties (evidence of factor validity and internal consistency) of the COVID-19 Burnout Scale in a sample of Brazilian health professionals. Two studies were carried out (N total = 427). In Study 1 [202 health professionals (age over 18), mainly women (82%) and psychologists (31.2%)], an exploratory factor analysis support the one-factor solution and the suitability of the ten items. Moreover, was also presented in Study 2 [225 health professionals (over 18 years old), the majority of women (79.6%) and psychologists (24.8%)] results of confirmatory factor analysis and item parameters (Item Response Theory) that corroborate the unifactorial structure and convergent validity with the Coronavirus Anxiety Scale. ABSTRACT

Developing psychometrically validated assessment tools to examine social and intergroup processes related to COVID-19 is fundamental for creating interventions that reduce the spread of this virus. Thus, this manuscript aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of a new measure, Assessment of COVID-19 Attitudes and Behaviors (ACAB), that assesses COVID-19-related attitudes (e.g., about physical distancing, xenophobia), behaviors (e.g., helping others versus prioritizing own needs), and beliefs (e.g., about others' roles in spreading COVID-19). We used exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses (EFA, CFA) to provide factor analytic support and Fisher's r-to-z transformation to provide construct validity evidence. EFA revealed and CFA confirmed a four-factor structure of social distancing adjustment, self-prioritization, prosocial behaviors, and belief in conspiracies. Fisher's r-to-z transformation provided evidence for the construct validity of the four factors. This psychometrically validated instrument will enhance social science researchers' ability to accurately identify and explicate psychological processes related to COVID-19. OBJECTIVE: The Eysenck Personality Questionnaire Revised - Abbreviated (EPQR-A) consists of 24 items for the assessment of the 3 fundamental personality traits (psychoticism, extraversion, and neuroticism) and a validity scale (lie scale). Our objectives were to assess the psychometric properties of the Brazilian culturally adapted version of this instrument. METHOD: 321 participants were included in a non-probabilistic method. RESULTS: Internal consistencies ranged from minimally acceptable to respectable, except for the psychoticism domain. Higher neuroticism scores were associated with higher depression and anxiety scores, higher extraversion scores were associated with lower levels of depressive symptoms, and higher psychoticism scores were associated with higher levels of depressive symptoms. CONCLUSION: Our findings describe sustainable psychometric properties of the Brazilian Portuguese version of EPQR-A.

The study aimed to perform confirmatory factor analysis, internal consistency, gender differential item functioning, and discriminant validity of the Fear of COVID-5 Scale in emerging adult students of a university in Mexico. Confirmatory factor analysis, internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha and McDonald's omega), and gender differential item functioning were estimated (Kendall tau b correlation). The Fear of COVID-5 Scale showed a one-dimension structure (RMSEA = 0.07, CFI = 0.98, TLI = 0.96, and SRMR = 0.02), with high internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha of 0.78 and McDonald's omega of 0.81), non-gender differential item functioning (Kendall tau b between 0.07 and 0.10), and significant discriminant validity (Higher scores for fear of COVID-19 were observed in high clinical anxiety levels). In conclusion, the Fear of COVID-5 Scale presents a clear one-dimension structure similar to a previous study.

ABSTRACT

Background: In 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, most group therapists moved their practice to online platforms. Surveys of psychotherapists indicate that many intend to maintain at least part of their practices online after the pandemic. This survey-based study aimed to identify therapist experiences with doing group therapy online, and to examine factors that are associated with therapist-rated outcomes. Method(s): 307 group therapists were surveyed about their ratings of the ease or difficulty in conducting group therapy online versus in-person, and indicators of patient outcomes in online groups. A confirmatory factor analysis resulted in a good fitting three latent factor solution: group therapeutic process factor (therapist ratings of ease to foster therapeutic alliance, group cohesion, and patient self-disclosure), group therapist factor (therapist presence, empathy, and focus in online therapy), and group therapeutic challenges factors in online work (related to the difficulty of working through conflict, managing avoidance, observing nonverbal communication, and discomfort during the online session). An online group therapy outcome factor was the dependent variable modeled as a latent factor of therapists' perception of patient outcomes and their own satisfaction with online groups. Results showed that higher levels of the group therapeutic processes and group therapist factors, and lower group challenges were associated with higher online group therapy outcomes. Conclusion(s): The present study suggests that online groups operate based on many of the same factors that have been supported in in-person group treatment. These factors were associated with the therapist's perceptions of online group effectiveness. However, difficulties in managing relationships in the online session may represent a barrier to enacting group therapeutic factors.

ABSTRACT

PurposeThe purpose of this study is to develop a scale to measure coronavirus shopping anxiety. Numerous studies have developed a scale for measuring coronavirus anxiety and fear, notably absent is a concerted effort to review and assess the impact of coronavirus on the shopping anxiety of consumers. This scale fulfills this gap.Design/methodology/approachThe steps taken for checking the various psychometrics of the scale include item generation, followed by exploratory factor analysis (EFA) through SPSS and confirmatory factor analysis through AMOS. The data were collected from over 208 respondents.FindingsThis study resulted in the development of a nine-item scale with robust psychometric properties. The scale resulted in highlighting two factors related to anxiety: in-store shopping anxiety and online shopping anxiety.Research limitations/implicationsThe scale developed has the desirable reliable and valid properties that could be used by aspiring researchers.Practical implicationsThe scale developed highlighted that the restrictions in shopping impact the mental health and psychology of consumers. The scale resulted in analyzing the factors related to shopping anxiety, which could give top management a perspective and vision to look into the minds of the consumer's shopping anxiety behaviors.Social implicationsCompanies, firms, health professionals and marketers could use this scale to investigate the various shopping anxiety perceptions among consumers in society.Originality/valueThis research fills the gap by developing a first nine-item scale based on the qualitative research and quantitative assessment for measuring shopping anxiety caused due to the pandemic.
